Verona Shopping and Districts

(Verona, Veneto, Italy)

Photo of market on the Piazza BraFor visitors planning to do a spot of shopping, Verona offers a good choice of shops. The city is also easy to get around, with the main shopping area being located in much the same area as many of Verona's main tourist attractions. So, if time is limited, it's perfectly possible to combine a little sightseeing with a shopping trip for souvenirs.

As well as shops that stock famous brands, it's worth checking out the eclectic mix of smaller, independent shops in Verona, which offer some rather unusual gifts, perfect to take back home and a reminder of your holiday.

When to Shop and Opening Hours

Shops in the centre of Verona are, in general, open from Tuesday to Saturday between 09:00 and 19:30, with a long lunch break. Shopping centres may stay open a little later. An increasing number also open on Monday afternoon. However, many shops in Verona - including those in shopping centres - are closed on Sunday and on public holiday days. There are exceptions, of course, and these mainly include small souvenir or gift shops. In August, some stores chose to close for several weeks, as their owners take an annual holiday.

Markets open most days in Verona's neighbourhoods, with the exception of Sunday. The early birds definitely get the bargains, with stall holders setting up shop around 07:00. By 13:00, the market squares are usually quiet once again.

Where to Shop

The main shopping area in Verona can be found on and around the pedestrianised Via Mazzini. Other notable streets include Corso Portoni Borsari, Via Roma, Via Cappello, and Piazza delle Erbe.

Here, visitors can enjoy browsing the stores for well-known fashion clothing brands, jewellery, those ever-popular fashion accessories such as sunglasses, and souvenirs of their visit to the city.

Grande Mela Shopping Land has three floors of shops, restaurants and cinemas. Across the city is Le Corti Venete, offering similar facilities.

A visit to one of Verona's neighbourhood markets is a great experience and offers a glimpse into real Italian life. Stalls sell a multitude of local cheeses, fish, sausage and confectionary, as well as household goods and clothing. The biggest market in Verona is held on Piazza delle Erbe. With its permanent stalls, it offers a different shopping experience from local markets, selling mostly clothes, souvenirs and antiques, as well as fast food.
