Verona Art Galleries
(Verona, Veneto, Italy, IT)
The works of Verona's best-known artists are displayed in a number of notable art galleries. One of the best galleries is without doubt the Museo Pinacoteca Canonicale, on the Piazza Duomo, where historical art works are displayed in all their glory.
The Civico Museo d'Arte di Castelvecchio is yet another of Verona's art galleries and boasts a series of sculptures from the 14th and 15th centuries. For a touch of Greece, the Greek reliefs at the Lapidario Museum Maffeiano on the Piazza Brà may also be of interest.

Like a number of Verona's museums, the Art Museum based in Castelvecchio was first set up in the 1920s. Restored in the early 1960s, the museum holds collections which include sculptures, medieval canvases, as well as fabric and arms. The statue which used to sit above the tomb of Cangrande I in the Scaglieri cemetery in Verona is now displayed in the Civico Museo d'Arte di Castelvecchio.

Paintings and stone sculptures make up the impression catalogue of exhibits held by Verona's Museo Pinacoteca Canonicale. The sheer size of the museum's collection, together with the great age of many works on display, really sets it apart from many bigger counterparts in other Italian cities. As well as paintings dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, visitors to the Museo Pinacoteca Canonicale can expect to see the work of Veronese artists in the 13th century and even earlier.
Verona art gallery open: Friday - 10:00 to 12:30, Saturday - 10:00 to 13:00, Sunday - 14:30 to 18:00

It is thanks to the eminent Veronese illuminist, Scipione Maffei, that the city's Museo Lapidario first came into being, back in the mid-18th century. Visitors to the museum today will discover a fascinating collection of some 600-odd exhibits, including some notable Greek reliefs.
