Ponte Pietra (Stone Bridge)
Verona has a known Roman past and the Ponte Pietra is actually the only Roman bridge still standing in the city. Not only is it very, very old, but it is really beautiful. It links the Old Town with San Pietro Hill, where there are some interesting remains of another Roman sight, the amphitheatre.

The Roman Arena in Verona
The ancient Roman amphitheatre is called the Arena. It is one of the city's oldest and most popular attractions. When we were walking around it I kept trying to picture gladioator fights taking place here, or chariot racing, or the like. Nowadays, some outdoor concerts and other events are staged here. It is not open on Mondays though.

When I went to the Arena...
The Arena is on the Piazza Brà and probably the number one landmark in Verona. It is big, awesome, breathtaking, and actually the 3rd biggest remaining amphitheatres from Roman times in the world. People flock here in the summer months to attend the operatic performances, us included. Wonderful atmosphere in a wonderful setting.
